High Park

Location: Toronto, Ontario

With over one million visitors annually, High Park is the jewel of Toronto's park system. It is the largest park entirely within Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It spans 161 hectares (398 acres, 1.61 kmē). It is a mixed recreational and natural park, with sporting facilities, cultural facilities, educational facilities, gardens, playgrounds and a zoo. Portuguese Community Monument, High Park

Photo of a monument that was placed in 1978 by the Portuguese Canadian community. The 2.1m-high white granite column is topped by a cross and is desigend after the landmarks that Portuguese explorers erected when claiming new lands. The pedestal sits on top of a granite floor marked with a compass rose pointing north. The inscription reads, "XXV Anniversary of the Portuguese Community in Canada 1953 1978." Photo looking NNW.
